Marble sculptures have been the medium of choice for fine art pieces throughout history. Marble is valued as a medium for sculpture because of its fine texture, its sheen and for its ability to display fine details without cleaving or crumbling. This sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary holding the limp body of Jesus Christ. It follows the pyramidal style of sculpture that was popular during this period. You can tell it has a pyramidal style by simply looking at the piece. You can see that the head of the Virgin Mary makes the apex point of the pyramid and each side of the sculpture slopes down to the base making a pyramid shape.

Modern marble sculptures can be abstract, realistic or even mixed medium. The price of the marble sculpture is going to depend on the quality of the marble, the popularity of the artist and the design itself.
